Day 260, January 6, 2013 (Islamorada, FL): We have only gone 40 miles north through the Hawk Channel. That is outside—sort of—but inside Florida Reef. Even though the wind was fairly brisk out of the east and the current against us seas were 2-3 with the occasional 4 on the nose.

Day 253, December 30, 2012 (Marathon, FL): Marathon looks like it has sustained one too many tropical storms. Over the years since we have been coming to the Keys, many of the city’s facilities appear to be in want of some renewal. That doesn’t stop fisherman, divers, and partiers from coming in droves. Yet, the prices are out of sight.

Day 247, December 24, 2012 (Marco Island via Fort Myers, FL): First of all, we wish our many friends on and off America’s Great Loop happy and fun-filled holidays and a good New Year in every way. We especially recognize the folks at S2 Tiara who refurbished and refit Sequel and at Coastal Carolina Yacht Sales who participated in our project in countless ways. Thanks to Jerry and his team at S2 Tiara in Holland, MI, and Craig, Maria, Joe, and Drew at Coastal Carolina in Charleston, SC.

Day 240, December 17, 2012 (Captiva via Boca Grande, FL): Longboat was a first-rate stop. Five days flew by. St. Armand’s Circle, the touristy shopping and restaurant area, is easily accessible. The marina featured a courtesy van.
